This poppy was the palest pink you can imagine, and confounded my attempts to capture its delicacy. It's like a flighty fairy.

I bought a bouquet of peonies and tried to paint the buds before they exploded into blossom, but these pink petal explosions wait for NO ONE. This one had a particularly feisty personality, which came out in loose bright brushstrokes.

I saw this frilly pink carnation at my friend's house and snapped a pic... it was impossible to capture the softness of the petals, but I had fun trying. Also loved the little glass medicine jar, something about the scale and the shape is so evocative.

I couldn't resist the graceful arc of this cluster of blossoms, or the deep velvety purple of the flowers.

The white blossoms looked so stunning against the charcoal grey wall, especially with that dramatic shadow. Loved playing with the transparency of the petals.

I get completely lost painting peonies... it's like falling under a spell.
I love the movement of this trio, how they go from bud, to blooming, to exploded. The drama of those petals!

Black Parrot Tulips are perfect in every way... these are extra vibrant with the spray of tree fern.

The trick is to paint the idea of petals, not the petals themselves. Zen wisdom from this hydrangea.

I went a little nuts painting black parrot tulips in the spring... I even thought about planting some bulbs of my own so I could relish those frilly deep purple petals in person. Until then, photo images are not too shabby.
It probably goes without saying, but it's been slow season for painting.
I did manage to get a few sessions at the easel, and jumped into the deep end with this outrageously pink and flouncy peony. How is it even standing up in that tiny glass of water?
